Descubrimientos locales (Local Finds)

Las personas en Córdoba caminan por todas partes. Necesité que hacer algunos recados, por lo tanto me puse mis zapatos atléticos y empecé mi travesía. Querría algunas verduras preparar para mis almuerzos. De correr sabía que había un supermercado cuatro cuadras de mi casa, por lo tanto caminé en esa dirección. Mientras estaba esperando para el semáforo cambiar ví una tienda con un anuncio que dijo "Frutas y Verduras," por eso decidí investigar. A diferencia del supermercado en Chacabuco, esta tienda era una propriedad de la familia y sus verduras eran mas frescas. 

Con una bolsa llena de verduras deliciosas continué. Quiero una taza especial para mate como un recuerdo. Pensé que la área de artesanos sería un buen lugar buscar. Mi mamá anfitriona me dijo que el tiempo mejor visitar esta área es a las 6 de la noche. He terminado todos mis otros recados, por lo tanto fui a la área de artesanos más temprano. No econtré una taza para mate que me gustó, pero no salí con manos vacios. Mientras estaba caminando a lo largo el calle Belgrano tropezó en un mercado de agricultores. En adición a los puestos de frutas y verduras había una panadería, un puesto para pescado fresco, otro de aceitunas verdes, otro con flores, etc. No sólo eran los precios más barato significativamente, pero había alimentos que me gustó que no pude encontrar en otros mercados. Para sólo 9 pesos (menos de un dólar americano) añadí un kilo de pomelos rosadaos a mi bolsa y tomé una nota que pude comprar frutas secadas de otro puesto la semana próxima. 

Mi exploración de establecimientos locales continuó en la noche cuando necesité encontrar un lugar para comer la cena. Usualmente mi mamá anfitriona cocina la cena, pero se ha convertido enferma, por eso necesité hacer algo a mi misma. Empecé caminar para buscar un restaurante. Encontré Pac Man, un puesto para empanadas y tartas. Lo ofreció una variedad de empanadas tradicionales (jamón y queso, jamón y cebollas, pollo y carne dulce) y tartas (verduras y jamón y queso). Compré una empanada de pollo y la tarta de jamón y queso. He tenido empanadas en otros restaurantes aquí pero esos han sido los mejores. De la corteza mantecosa a los sabores de los rellenos eran los más deliciosos. Después terminé mi tarta y empanada fui tentada regresar y comprar más.

The people in Córdoba walk everywhere. I needed to run some errands, so I put on my walking shoes and began my journey. I wanted some vegetables to prepare for lunches. From running I knew that there was a supermarket 4 blocks form my house, so I walked in that direction. While I was waiting for a stoplight to change I saw a store with a sign that said "Fruits and Vegetables," so I decided to investigate. Unlike the supermarket on Chacabuco, this store was family-owned and its fruits and vegetables were fresher. 


With a bag full of delicious vegetables I continued. I want a special mate cup as a souvenir. I thought that the artisan district would be a good place to look. My host mom told me that the best time to visit this area at 6pm. I had finished all of my other errands, so I went to the artisan district early. I didn't find a mate cup that I liked, but I didn't leave empty handed. While I was walking along Belgrano street I stumbled into a farmers market. In addition to the fruit and vegetable stalls there was a bakery, a stall for fresh fish, another for olives, another for flowers etc. Not only were the prices significantly cheaper, but there were foods that I liked that I could not find at other stores. For only 9 pesos (less than an American dollar) I added a kilo of pink grapefruit to my bag and I took note that I could buy dried fruit at another stall next week. 

My exploration of local establishments continued at night when I needed to find a place to eat dinner. Usually, mi host mom cooks dinner, but she has become ill so I needed to do something myself. I began to walk in search of a restaurant. I found Pac Man, a stall for empanadas and tarts. It offered a variety of traditional empanadas (ham and cheese, ham and onions, chicken and sweet meat) and tarts (vegetable and ham and cheese). I bought a chicken empanada and the ham and cheese tart. I have had empanadas at other restaurants here, but these have been the best. From the buttery crust to the flavors of the fillings they were the most delicious. After I finished my tart and empanada I was tempted to return and buy more.
